『병인 순교자 시복재판록 2차(Congr. Riti. Processus 5279 )』 질문서의 비판정본 - CRP 5279 에 대한 고찰을 겸하여 -
이 글의 목적은 Congr. Riti. Processus 5279 에 실린 『병인 순교자 시복재판록 2차』의 질문서(Interrogatoria)를 판독하여 비판정본을 제시하 고, CRP 5279 에서 발견한 몇 가지 사실을 소개하는 것이다. 이득수 교수 가 1999년 교황청 비밀문서고(Archivum Secretum Vaticanum, ASV)에 서 발견한 CRP 5279~5282 는 병인박해 순교자들의 시복재판 기록으로, CRP 5279 는 교황청위임재판[Processus Apostolicus, 2차 수속, 교황청수 속], CRP 5280~5282 는 교구재판[Processus Ordinarius, 1차 수속, 정보 수속(Processus Informativus)] 기록에 해당한다. 병인박해 순교자들을 대 상으로 한 교구재판 이후에 교황청위임재판이 이루어졌는데, 교구재판에 서 판사의 질문과 증인들의 답변이 핵심이 되었듯이, 교황청위임재판에서 도 증인 심문이 중요한 비중을 차지한다. 『병인 순교자 시복재판록 1차』와 『시복재판록 2차』 모두 한국어로 작성된 한국어 재판록과 이를 라틴어로 번역하고 공증한 라틴어 재판록이 하나의 짝으로 존재한다. 그런데 『시복 재판록 1차』의 질문서가 한국어 재판록에 부재(不在)하는 것과 마찬가지 로 『시복재판록 2차』의 한국어 재판록에서는 질문서를 찾아볼 수 없다. 그 렇기에 질문서를 담고 있는 라틴어 재판록을 살펴보지 않는다면, 문헌을 이해하는 데에는 명백한 한계가 있다. 특히 『시복재판록 2차』에서는 『시 복재판록 1차』와는 내용적으로 상이한 질문서가 사용되었다는 점에서 별 도의 고찰이 필요하다. 이 글은 『시복재판록 2차』의 질문서가 당시의 재판 과정과 『시복재판 록 2차』를 이해하는 데 긴요한 문헌이라는 문제 의식을 갖고, 『시복재판 록 2차』 질문서의 비판정본을 제작하고 『시복재판록 2차』 기록을 검토하 여 다음과 같은 성과를 거두었다. 첫째, 『시복재판록 2차』에 실린 질문서 가 『시복재판록 1차』의 질문서보다 더욱 상세하다는 점, 질문서의 내용이 재판에서 이루어진 문답을 이해하는 데 큰 도움이 된다는 점을 2회차 집회 기록의 대조정본을 통해 보여주었다. 둘째, 1회차 집회 기록을 살펴봄으로 써 질문서, 심문요항과 조목(Positiones et Articuli), 재판 시작 이전의 예 비 단계에 대한 정보와 이에 대한 문헌 전거를 발견했다. 셋째, 조목들이 한국어로 번역되었음을 확인하고 관련 문헌을 제시하였다. 넷째, 시복 재 판 과정에서 소집회(processiculus)가 열렸고, 한국인 사제들이 실제 재판 과정에 참여했음을 밝혔다. 라틴어 재판록과 한국어 재판록은 하나의 몸 체를 이룬다. 그렇기에 두 언어로 된 재판록을 두루 살펴야 비로소 『시복재판록』에 담긴 내용을 온전히 이해하고 당시의 역사적 상황과 문헌이 위 치한 맥락을 파악할 수 있다. 이상의 연구가 향후 이루어질 시복재판록의 비판정본 작업과 한국성인학(韓國聖人學)을 위한 초석이 되기를 기대한다.
A Critical Edition of Interrogatoria in Documents of Beatification Trial, Congr. Riti. Processus 5279 : with notes on CRP 5279
This article aims at making a critical edition of Interrogatoria in Congr. Riti. Processus 5279 and reporting some facts regarding Documents of Beatification trial, CRP 5279. CRP 5279~5282 are preserved in Archivum Secretum Vaticanum, and they were discovered by Professor I Deug-su in 1999 (N.B. CRP 5279 for Processus Apostolicus; CRP 5280~5282 for Processus Informativus). These are the records of the Beatification trials of martyrs who suffered martyrdoms during the Pyŏngin persecution (1866~1867). Trial records were first written as originals in Korean, then translated into Latin and notarized through canonical procedures. Testimonies were collected at ecclesiastical trials by the fixed questions from Interrogatoria. Processus Informativus and Processus Apostolicus were essential procedures for the Beatification of the martyrs, and remarkably, different Interrogatoria were chosen for each trial. Interrogatoria in CRP 5279 is a list of questions that were used in Processus Apostolicus for 26 Pyŏngin martyrs. Although Interrogatorias play a significant role in understanding the answers of witnesses and canonical procedures, it has been impossible to comprehend their exact contents, as Interrogatorias of both Processus Informativus and Processus Apostolicus are only preserved in Latin Documents. Through a critical edition of Interrogatoria for Processus Apostolicus and analysis of Sessio I and Sessio II in CRP 5279, this paper provides some suggestions. First, Interrogatoria for Processus Apostolicus is more precise than Interrogatoria for Processus Informativus, and as the critical edition of Sessio II shows, it helps understand questions and answers. Second, Sessio I provides essential information on the composition of Interrogatoria, Positiones, Articuli, and preliminary steps for trials. Third, Articuli in Sessio I were translated into Korean and the Korean version was used during trials. Fourth, Processiculi (i.e. Small Processus) were held during Processus Apostolicus and Koreans leadingly participated in the actual processes. In a nutshell, Latin Documents and Korean Documents indeed construct a single body. They serve to understand the text themselves respectively and to reconstruct the historical circumstances and contexts of Documents. We hope our research will lay the foundation for further studies and Korean Hagiography.
