족보를 통해 본 최양업 신부 가문의 몇 가지 문제
최양업 신부는 한국천주교회의 두 번째 방인(邦人) 사제로, 2016년 4월 에 ‘가경자(可敬者)’로 선포된 인물이다. 최 신부는 시복 대상자가 될 정도 로 한국교회에서의 위상이 매우 높다. 그리고 그러한 위상에 걸맞게 그에 대한 연구도 일찍부터 진행되어, 다양한 주제의 연구 성과들이 나와 있다. 그러나 지금까지 최양업 신부의 가계, 특히 최한일(최양업의 증조) 이전의 가계를 분석한 연구는 거의 없다. 물론 최한일 이전 세대는 천주교와 무관하다. 그렇지만 이들에 대한 족 보 기록은 기존에 불명확했던 사항들을 설명할 수 있는 단서들을 제공해 주고 있다. 이에 필자는 족보를 활용하여 최양업 가문과 관련된 몇 가지 문 제들, 즉 “최양업 집안이 서울에 정착한 시기, 청양으로 이주한 이유, 김화 (金化, 즉 금성) 지역과의 관계, 이 가문에서 처음으로 신자가 된 최한일의 입교 과정과 양자설(養子說), 최양업 가문의 신분” 등에 대해 새롭게 정리해 보았다. 이 중에서 특히 최양업 가문의 신분이 서족(庶族)임을 밝힌 것은 이 글의 커다란 성과라고 하겠다.
Some problems of the Father Choi Yang-eop's family reviewed through genealogy
Father Choi Yang-eop is the second native priest of the Korean Catholic Church, and in April 2016, he was declared a “venerable.” Father Choi has a very high status in the Korean church to the extent that he is subject to beatification. And, befitting its status, research on it has been conducted from an early stage, and research results on various topics have been published. However, few studies have analyzed Father Choi Yang-eop's family lineage so far. In this situation, the author uses genealogy to investigate several issues related to Father Choi Yang-eop's family, namely, when Father Choi Yangeop's family settled in Seoul, the relationship with Kimhwa, why they moved to Cheongyang, and how Choi Han-il gained faith. and the status of the Choi Yang-eop family also was newly revealed. Among these, especially, it can be said that it is a great achievement of this article to reveal that the family of Choi Yang-eop was a Seojog(庶族).
