김대건 신부의 활동과 업적에 대한 연구
김대건 신부는 자기 집안의 유서 깊은 신앙과 순교 전통에 대하여 자랑스럽게 여겼으며, 자신이 조선 교회의 일원이라는 데 대해서도 자부심을 가졌다. 그는 신학교에서 공부하는 동안 내내 복통과 두통과 요통을 앓아 공부를 제대로 할 수가 없었다. 그러나 그는 끝내 불리한 여러 조건들을 모두 극복하고 나중에 사제 서품을 받았다. 그는 매스트르(Maistre) 신부와 함께 세실(Cécille) 함장이 지휘하는 에리곤(I'Erigone)호를 타고 조선에 입국하려고 시도하기도 하고, 육로로 국경을 넘어 조선에 입국하려고 시도하기도 했다. 이 과정에서 그는 견문을 넓히고 또한 1839년 기해박해 이후 단절되었던 조선 교회와의 연락망을 복원하였다. 그는 1845년 1월에 육로로 국경을 넘어 조선에 입국한 뒤 배를 1척 구입하여 선교사들을 맞이하러 상해로 갔다. 그는 이 공로로 한국인으로서는 최초로 8월 17일 상해의 김가항(金家港) 성당에서 페레올(Ferréol) 주교로부터 사제 서품을 받았다. 그런 다음 그는 페레올 주교와 다블뤼(Daveuluy) 신부를 배로 조선에 입국시켰다. 그는 선교사를 입국시킬 새로운 길을 개척하려고 1846년 5월 14일에 마포를 출발하여 백령도로 향했다. 그는 백령도 부근에서 고기잡이를 하고 있는 백 척 가량의 중국 산동 지방 어선을 발견하였다. 이 중국 어선들은 매년 음력 3월 초순에 이곳으로 와서 고기를 잡은 뒤 5월 하순에 돌아간다. 그는 이 중국 어선들을 이용하여 선교사들을 영접하고 편지를 전달하고자 했다. 그러나 그는 임무를 마치기 직전인 6월 5일 순위도에서 체포되어 9월 16일 순교하였다. 하지만 그가 탐사한 백령도 부근을 통한 입국로는 1856년 이후 선교사들의 주된 입국로로 활용되었다. 선교사들은 중국 어선을 타고 백령도 부근에 와서 조선 배로 갈아타고 조선의 해변에 상륙하였다.
A Study on Priest Kim Dae-Geon's Activities and Achievements
Priest Kim Dae-Geon(金大建) felt proud of his family's historic faith and martyrdom tradition, and also took pride in that he was a member of Joseon(朝鮮) Church. While studying in a seminary, he suffered from stomachache, headache, and lumbago all the time so he couldn't study, but overcoming various disadvantageous conditions including the pains, he got ordained. He, together with Priest Maistre, attempted to enter Joseon on the boat of I'Erigone led by Captain Cécille, and he also crossed the border by land to enter Joseon. In this process, he extended his knowledge and recovered the network with Joseon Church which had been disconnected after the persecution happened in 1839, the year of the swine. In January 1845, he crossed the border by land and entered Joseon. And he purchased a boat and went to Shanghai(上海) to greet missionaries. Because of this meritorious service, he got ordained by Bishop Ferréol at Kimgahang(金家港) Church in Shanghai on August 17, who was the first Korean who got ordained. And then, he brought Bishop Ferréol and Priest Daveuluy to Joseon by boat. In order to find a new way to help missionaries enter Joseon, he departed Mapo(麻浦) on May 14, 1846 for Baikryeong(白翎) Island. He found about 100 boats coming from Shandong(山東), China that were fishing around Baikryeong Island. The Chinese boats used to come to Baikryeong Island during the first ten days of March in lunar calender to fish, and go back during the last ten days of May. He intended to greet missionaries and deliver a letter by use of these Chinese boats. However, on June 5, right before finishing his mission, he was arrested at Soonwi(巡威) Island and died a martyr on September 16. However, the entry road through the neighborhood of Baikryeong Island that he found became the major entry road for missionaries after 1856. Missionaries came to Baikryeong Island by Chinese boat, transferred to a Joseon boat, and landed on the beach of Joseon.
